CAPA-MC 2026 Summer Civic Internship Application (Due May 31, 2026)

Chinese American Parent Association of Montgomery County (CAPA-MC) is offering an exciting Civic Internship opportunity to high school students in MCPS or college student who resident in Montgomery County in Summer 2026. This internship program has high expectations of our students on their work ethic, professionalism, and maturity, as you will be representing the host mentor’s image to the general public. 

In this internship, you are not only going to learn the basic government function, daily routines of elected/appointed officials, their legislations, but also communication skills, community outreach, and organization skills.

Background about this internship program:

  1. Minimum 80 hours of civic related assignments/tasks during summer (could extend to November if needed); working remotely or in-person or hybrid will be discussed and decided between the mentor and the intern.
  2. Working on all civic related activities that could help you gain firsthand elected/appointed officials experience in various areas.
  3. Interns are expected to behave as young professionals that have semi-formal dress when at work, if needed and per the mentor’s guidance.
  4. Interns need to submit a self-reflection report by the end of the internship period mutually agreed upon by the mentor and the intern.
  5. Interns are expected to provide their own transportation (only within Montgomery County area) or computer.
  6. Interns will receive SSL hours for the internship experience.
  7. Successful Interns might be provided returned opportunity next summer and would get recommendation letter for college application/work from the mentor or CAPA-MC.

Applicant Qualifications:

  1. Maryland Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) Students 9th to 12th Grade or College Student resident in Montgomery County
  2. At least one of applicant’s parents is a voting member of CAPA-MC (Link to register and become a CAPA-MC voting member with membership fee $30 every two years: CAPA-MC Member Register Form)
  3. Submit this Civic Internship application form, a letter to explain your interest to this internship opportunity (between 250 to 500 words), and your resume.
  4. Application Deadline: May 31, 2026 (Due to seat limits, registration will close once 10 registrations are received.)

All applications will be reviewed.  Strong candidates will be selected for interviews.  Five to six top qualified students will be selected. Students will be assigned a mentor.  Selection notifications will be sent on June 7, 2026. Once selected, a program registration fee $150 is required for commitment. Financial aid is available for low income families.
