SEEDS provides a wide range of peer-to-peer supporting network with educational, recreational, and therapeutic group activities to support special education students and their families, to encourage and reconnect community bonding, to advocate for their voices, and to foster the growing together relations between special education students and their peers.
Since it was founded in 2021, the SEEDS (Special Education Equal Development Society) Club strives to:
- Through weekly, monthly, and yearly activities, SEEDS strives to increase opportunities for special education students, foster connections between special education students and student volunteers, and advocate for special education students throughout the community.
- SEEDS builds on four cornerstones:
- Provide Services to meet the unmet social and educational needs of special education students
- Connect special education students and families the community and encourage them to participate in the community activities
- Advocate for the voices of special education students and families, and their equal development rights
- Open the unique training opportunities for young volunteers to learn to be kind, caring, patient, considerate and thoughtful in life, with love
- Most recently, SEEDS has won the Distinguished Service to Public Education Award from Montgomery County Board of Education, Gold Award from the CAPA National Youth Leadership and Innovation Showcase, Hershey Heartwarming Heroes Grant, Dr. Alan Cheung Community Leadership Scholarship, among many others.
- Proudly funded and supported by AAHI, DDA, Hersey Foundation, UCA and many other community partners
- SEEDS Network now includes SEEDS Montgomery County, SEEDS Howard County, SEEDS Baltimore County and SEEDS Minnesota.
